Kuan Yin Journey for Healing and Compassion

Nicki Scully from Power Animal Meditations (Bear & Co./Inner Traditions, 2001)

All people will benefit from the healing journey of Kuan Yin. She has been worshipped as the Chinese Bodhisattva of compassion by millions of people for thousands of years. She is known to be one of the most accessible entities; her name means "She-Who-Hearkens-to-the-Cries-of-the-World." Individuals from all walks of life, from fisherfolk and Buddhist laymen to Taoist sages, venerate her as a goddess of mercy. (For further information, see Bodhisattva of Compassion by John Blofeld. Boston: Shambhala, 1998.) In Tibet, Kuan Yin is known as Tara. In Christian cultures she corresponds most closely with Mother Mary. She is called "Kwannon Sama" in Japan and is as popular there as she is in China.

In response to the suffering throughout our planet, especially from the raging epidemics of AIDS, leukemia, and other terminal diseases, Kuan Yin offered the following journey into the Cauldron. It can be effective for those with a wide range of physical and emotional problems.

In this journey, you find yourself in an ancient landscape of peace and tranquility. There you will meet Kuan Yin to receive healing and guidance and to have an opportunity to reach a deeper understanding of your disease and the message it brings, as well as to learn about your healing process.

Kuan Yin Journey

It is early evening and a nightingale appears, silhouetted against the sky.

Follow it as it leads the way to a bridge that connects to an island in the middle of the wide river. As the nightingale flies over the bridge, follow on foot, and as you step onto the bridge, become aware that it is alive and that you are walking on the curved backbone of a dragon. The dragon twists its head out of the water and looks at you as you cross on its back. Its eyes are luminous pools of a liquid color. As you look deeply into its eyes, this dragon is knowing you. All the aspects of who and what you are received and reflected in its mirrorlike eyes . . . (Pause.) This dragon knows and accepts you without judgement and gives its blessing as you step onto the island of Kuan Yin.

There is a feeling of ancient China here. As your senses awaken to the delights of this garden, you can smell the air of a lush and fragrant summer evening.

As you move toward the center of the island, there is an open Chinese temple. A presence patiently waits for you, and as you walk toward the inward glade, you can see the pale, calm, luminous face of Kuan Yin. Her hair is caught up on her head with gold ornaments that make a tinkling sound when she moves. She is dressed in rich silk robes. She appears small. Loving, gentle, and welcoming, she greets you by placing a hand on her heart, then holding it out for your hand. She’s delighted to be with you. Kuan Yin looks at your face and your body, and you feel throughout your being loving acceptance of who you are. She is able to see your true beauty unveiled and not clouded by the earthly realm. She begins to move her hands around and through your body, clearing and healing any dark places and filling every cell of your body with her love.

Any diseased cells cannot accept this bounty, and Kuan Yin picks them out very easily and places them in a bowl. They might look like black lumps of coal. As she removes them, you are able to study them from an objective point of view, and you feel your fears and self-doubts also depart until they are no longer a part of you . . . (Long pause.)

Follow Kuan Yin as she carries the bowl to the river’s edge, where the dragon awaits . . . As she holds up the bowl, the dragon breathes the fire of wisdom, burning everything in the bowl quickly away. As you perceive the smoke rising to the sky and dissipating in the breeze, go within yourself and search for understanding. Kuan Yin is there in all compassion to help you heal yourself; she cherishes every part of your being. So be with yourself and Kuan Yin as you seek to know the changes you must make to complete this healing . . .(Long pause.)

Kuan Yin now leads you to a pool. Take off the clothes you are wearing and step into the cool, clear water. She pours water over you from a vessel, cleansing you, and in this way you are reborn, clean and fresh. You feel a great joy and happiness in living. Kuan Yin shares this with you.

She gives you a gift, a token that is a protective amulet of a green color. She tells you to call her whenever you want. You can invite her presence by using the token she has given you.

Spend the next few moments with Kuan Yin, continuing to receive her healing and further suggestions she might give you at this time.

When you feel complete, follow the nightingale as she flies back over the dragon bridge.
